Head, shoulders, knees and toes!

We have had a busy couple of weeks when the focus of our activities has been on finding out about our bodies. We have sung lots of different rhymes such as 'head shoulders knees and toes' and 'Peter hammers with one hammer' as we learned the names of different parts of our body.
Last week we thought about all the different things we used our hands for. Some of our ideas were swimming, cleaning our teeth, eating, catching a ball, and driving a car or aeroplane. We then painted our hands and made some lovely pictures from our hand prints. We will be making a display of them in the classroom.

In art this week we have been using our eyes to explore what happens when we mix colours. We listened to the story 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?' and then had fun mixing together different colours. We made some colours we recognised and invented some new colours! We also talked about how when we add white to a colour although the colour stays the same it looks different.

Last week we also looked carefully at the different features of our face and then made a picture of ourselves from salt dough.

In PE we have been learning to find our own space and think of different ways we can move.

In maths we used our hands to see how many conkers we could pick up and practised counting them. We remembered to use our 'counting finger' to touch each conker as we counted them.

We also used our hands to represent different numbers.

In small groups we looked at what colour our eyes are. We counted up how many people had blue, brown or green eyes and talked about what we found out.

In RE we talked about how God loves us and we made and decorated a heart to remind us of this.
Some of us  used some autumn leaves to make a hedgehog. We have put them up in the classroom.

Here are a few of the other things we have done this week.

A couple of reminders. If your child has been baptised and you have a photo, we would love to have a copy for your child's learning journey. Please hand it to a member of staff for safe keeping. We start our new RE topic of 'Welcome' next week and will be looking at the Baptism photos.
Tomorrow is Harvest Festival. Please could any donations of food be handed to the nursery staff in the morning.

This Saturday the PTA are holding a barn dance which promises to be a fun event. If you would like tickets or more details please contact one of the nursery PTA reps.
We hope you a have a lovely weekend and well done nursery for all the things you have taken part in so enthusiastically,
Jill Clarke and the Nursery team.
