We started the last two weeks by enjoying some rather lovely summer weather whilst thinking about Autumn! The children have enjoyed sharing what they know about Autumn as well as learning some new things. They have taken part in lots of different art and craft activities using leaves, visited the new outdoor classroom as part of their autumn walk and learned a new rhyme called 10 little leaves:
In maths we have been finding out about our favourite things. We had a choice of two things eg apple or banana and had to put a brick by the one we liked best. We made a tower from the bricks and compared the size of the towers and the number of bricks, to find out which one more children liked and whether the two choices ever got the same number of votes.
In phonics we played a listening game. One person went behind a screen and played an instrument and the other children had to guess which instrument they were playing. In RE we started our new topic on Welcome. We took part in different activities as we thought about how we are welcomed at nursery. These included a “welcome to nursery” poster, some smiley faces to remind us that being welcomed makes us happy and making a welcome card for a friend.
Thank you for all the Baptism photos. The children have enjoyed seeing themselves as babies and talking about who else was in their photo. We have made a display of the photos on our RE board and then they will be added to the children's learning journal. Next week we will be dressing up and re-enacting a little Baptism in nursery.
Thank you very much for all the lovely bulbs you have sent in last week. The children have started planting them and this activity will continue next week.
Here are a few of the others things we have done this week .
Have a lovely weekend,
Jill Clarke and the Nursery team.
