Multi Cultural Arts Week

We have had a busy couple of weeks in Nursery. Last week we had a lovely week as we joined the rest of the school to take part in Multi Cultural Arts Week. We started our week with a drumming workshop. We were shown lots of instruments and told all about the different sounds they made. We then got to try out the instruments. The second part of the workshop was all about drumming. We had a demonstration on how to use the drums and then we all had a go. Great fun. We have added some photographs of the children in action with the drums to their learning journals.

On Tuesday we designed our ladybird T-shirts stamping carefully with a sponge to make the shape. We then added some spots and leaves. On Wednesday we made a ladybird mask and then we were all ready for some carnival fun on Friday. We joined with Reception to process around the playground and dance to some carnival music.
This week we have started a new topic in RE called “Our World.”  We looked at a PowerPoint that showed lots of different things that make our world so amazing. We then thought of something we would like to say thank you to God for in our world and drew a picture. We have added these pictures to the RE board in Nursery.
Our theme this week has been butterflies. We have watched with great interest how the Nursery caterpillars have slowly changed to butterflies. On Monday there was great excitement as we took the butterflies into the playground to release them. Two flew off straight away but the third was happy to wait a little longer, so we were able to have a closer look.

In art we have made ladybirds and  butterflies. We talked about symmetrical patterns and then we designed one for our own butterfly by painting one side of the paper and folding it over to make a repeated pattern. We listened to the story of “The Hungary Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and took part in different activities to help us remember what happened in the story.

We have also been working with clay for the first time. We have made a little dish and this week started to paint them using different colours and patterns.
On Tuesday we made bread. We all had a turn at mixing together the ingredients and tried our hand at kneading. There was no difficulty finding a warm place for the dough to rise and after an hour we worked in small groups to make a little roll to take home.

Tomorrow we are off to Dell Farm. We are going to be taking part in some activities from the story “We’re going on a Bear Hunt.” It looks like it is going to be a fun day.

Next Week
On Saturday it is the Summer Fayre. The weather forecast looks good and there are always lots of lovely things to do and eat. We look forward to seeing you there.
Next week we start Nursery lunches. If your child is staying to lunch you need to have returned the form to the office with a payment for the lunches. Please then fill in the forms outside the Nursery door to let us and the kitchens know what meal your child would like to eat.
On Thursday 5 July it is Celebration Evening – please come along to school between 6.00 pm and 8.00pm to have a look at our classroom and see all the lovely work from this term. There will be an opportunity to visit other classrooms and to listen to some of our older children perform in the school hall. This is an event for all the family and the children love to show their parents around!
On Friday it is Sports Day for which we have been in training! On Friday morning please bring your child as usual to Nursery and then make your way round to the large school field. Sports Day will start at 9.15am. Please could all children wear shoes they can run in easily, preferably trainers and make sure they have a sun hat in school.

Have a lovely weekend.

Jill Clarke and the Nursery team.
