Pirates and Princesses

We have had a lovely first week back, enjoying some good summer weather to finish the week. Thank you for all the magic moments. We are sharing a couple a day and the whole class have enjoyed hearing about the different things everyone did at half term.

This week we started our new topic of summer, sand and water. Our small group activity on Tuesday was drawing a treasure map. The children had lots of ideas for the things they would like to include. Here are a few of their maps.

We have also had many fantastic treasure maps brought in for show and tell which has provoked much discussion in our key worker time.

In phonics we have been thinking about rhyming words this week and in particular continuing a rhyming string. We are encouraging the children to think of as many words as they can that rhyme with eg dog. These can be real words or nonsense words. In explore and learn we have been playing rhyming games and doing rhyming puzzles.
Our sound this week has been b and the rhyme has been “Down the laces to the heel and around the toe.” Next week we will be revising the sounds we have learned so far this term.
In maths this week we have been practising adding up and recording numbers in different ways through playing games or using our adding machine.
We finished the week with a very special little visitor.

Next week we have class and whole school photographs on Tuesday and Sports Day on Friday. Please make sure your child wears trainers to school on Friday. This week we practised our novelty race and were particularly skilled at picking up bean bags, putting them in a bucket whilst still running in a straight line! Well done nursery.

Here are a few of the other things we have done this week.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend
Jill Clarke
